Higgs Boson
We are proud to announce the debut CD album release by the stunning composer and keyboard virtuoso Higgs Boson. He has put together a group of exceptional UK musicians for his self-named album. It features nine original compositions which are strikingly fresh and inventive, showcasing Higgs' diverse jazz, rock and classical influences.
This exciting CD displays Higgs superb keyboard playing, as well as a formidable talent for composition. It also features the skills of top UK musicians including guitarists Pete Claridge (ex Outsource/Greengate and Boomtown Rats) together with Chuck Scirocco making his first album appearance, bassist Kevin Jeffries (ex Sally Oldfield), the brilliant saxophonist Rob Townsend who also plays with Django Bates, and ace drummer Tom Hooper.
This is the first jazz project totally controlled by Higgs from composition through to final production, helped by Gareth Young, an internationally acclaimed pop producer. This will be a new, fresh and exciting experience for the listener which promises something different.

Guitar Techniques

“Higgs Boson’ is the debut from an impressive jazz-crossover composer. Higgs (keyboards) is joined by a number of reputable musicians including Pete Claridge and Chuck Scirocco (guitars), Rob Townsend (sax), Kevin Jeffries (bass) and ace drummer Tom Hooper. All of the instruments are featured heavily, so the album doesn’t come across as a keyboardist’s project. Penumbra is a cracker, with glorious syncopations, a burning solo from Scirocco and killer drum chops from Hooper. Perpetual Symmetry features some beautiful guitar flourishes from Claridge. Higgs’ playing is superb throughout. Highly recommended.

Jazz Journal International

In this album of fusion-styled material, Higgs Boson shows a sound command of both form and orchestration in his chosen idiom, and applies his know-how with imagination. In this respect the opening track is a stand-out, others tending to offer less demanding listening and one or two veering towards New Age music.
This is not intrinsically soloists’ music, much of it depending on through-composed development, but there are diverting contributions from guitarists Scirocco and Claridge, saxophonist Rob Townsend (known for his association with Django Bates) and Boson himself. Higgs Boson, as you may already have guessed, is indeed a nom-de-guerre drawn from the sub-atomic particle of the same name.
