Portuguese Jazz Bands @ Casino Estoril

Bringing some of the best Portuguese jazz bands together on the same record is no walk in the park. Portugal despite being a small and peripheral country has shown stunning vitality in this field over the lst few years as new musicians and new musical trends constantly emerge. I organized a "Portuguese Jazz" cycle over a four month period at Casino Estoril's central bar in 1999. the cycle was dubbed "Jazz Wednesdays" and every event was recorded. this CD is a sort of "best of" from these recordings. It is a rare insight into a jazz currently being made in Portugal, where cultural creativity is first and foremost influenced by the South and the Atlantic for well documented historical reasons. © Pedro Osorio In an age when the great multinationals have a huge commercial influence, there are great musicians who are unable to find a forum where their musical creations can be heard by the public at large. New Discoveries Records is a label run by muscians who intend to produce and edit quality music (instrumental, jazz and ethnic-fusion). Music for the "great minorities" who are attentive and knowledgeable.
