When I set out to record this album, a couple of people whose judgement I trust told me, "Whatever you do, don't make it the kind of fingerstyle guitar album where each track sounds the same as the one that preceded it, and for God's sake, keep the tracks short and listenable."
Whilst I'm not sure that's fair to all fingerstyle albums, I kind of knew what they meant. This recording represents a sketch of the music I have been making for the last couple of years. It's been a privilege to play Takamine guitars here in the UK, and also in Europe and America, and I'd like to thank Rob Castle, Estelle Furnell, and all my friends at Korg UK for their support. Thanks to Ichiro, Osamu, Mr Sugimura and everyone at Takamine in Japan. Thanks to the international family of fingerstyle players for their continued inspiration. Thank you to the audiences, who are the only reason for this ungodly amount of miles travelled, and finally thanks to Lana, Dan and Michael, who are my reasons to be happy and prematurely grey. | |
